Can soldier characters be mercenaries or do they have to be affiliated with the human/earth government?
The soldier characters are characters that are specifically trained for the program, so they aren't limited to the earth government. One of our soldiers is an alien, so you can definitely try your hand at explaining another alien character's way into the military. ;D
A'ight, so my idea is this; I already put up a sort of reference sheet for an alien species on my profile, and they've been legally recognized as sapient by a few governments for at most twenty years and at least five. It being what it is, it didn't make sense to me to have my character, who is a member of this species, go into the program on her own, so. I made her a partner, a professional mercenary who would act as sort of a sponsor for her. They've been together for fifteen years and are in the program for the paycheck and promise of future looting. Does that work or should I modify it?

I think I may have seen your alien (It was done in traditional?), and I remember that I liked it very much.

Of what I understand I believe they can be mercenaries, though they do have to follow the orders of the head of that category.
